Scanning Documents of Sentimental Value

Reading time: 1 min

I used to keep small documents that have sentimental value.

Things like movie tickets, plane tickets, maps/guides, booking documentation, birthday cards / farewell cards, etc.

Scanning (or just photo taking) is now so accessible and so clear on phones.

There's no reason to keep such documents anymore.

And so, I'm planning to say good bye to most these documents.

Other Notes and Thoughts

I'm a mild data hoarder.

I like my backups.

By the way, go back up your devices if you've never done so.

I like my notes databases.

I checked the Wikipedia article for the term "Digital hoarding" and looked at the first image on the page.

Hey, that looks like the laptop I used 10 years ago!

Desktop absolutely filled to the brim with files.

People would roll their eyes at me and ask me how I even find anything on my computer.

Answer: Search your desktop, don't dig through folders.

I name everything properly and can find anything within a second of searching using Powertoys (software).

Also, even though there are like 600 items on my desktop, I know where important files are.

My phone now uses the same system:

Only the first two pages have daily-use apps.

The rest are in folders. (Oop, wanted to link to a post about designing your phone home screen, but it's an old WIP draft.)

I find everything else with search. Honestly faster than swiping through screens, manually locating, and tapping.
